Hajji Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige

Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige, fondly known as BMK, was more than just a name in Uganda’s business circles—he was a visionary who transformed dreams into reality. Born on October 2, 1953, BMK’s entrepreneurial journey is a tale of determination, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to his values. From humble beginnings, he ascended to become one of Uganda’s wealthiest individuals by 2012, leaving an indelible mark on the country’s economic landscape.

In 1997, BMK embarked on a venture that would become a cornerstone of his legacy—Hotel Africana. Nestled on Kololo Hill, in the heart of Kampala’s bustling business district, it started as a modest 40-room motel. BMK with his brother Hajj Haruna kibirige Kalule envisioned a space that not only offered accommodation but provided an experience that mirrored the warmth and hospitality of Uganda.

But BMK’s vision extended beyond just one hotel. He became the chairman of BMK Group of Companies, an empire that spanned across several industries and countries with his brother Hajj Haruna as a managing director. His business portfolio included prestigious hotels, such as Hotel Africana branches in Moroto-Uganda, and Lusaka-Zambia, as well as BMK Motorcycles, with operations in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Zambia. He even ventured into the financial sector with two Forex bureaus under Hotel Africana, and BMK Construction Leasing and BMK Oil Equipment expanded his influence into construction and oil.

BMK’s achievements weren’t confined to his personal business ventures. He served as the chairman of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA), shaping the future of Uganda’s hospitality industry. His influence stretched overseas as a board member of the Ugandan North American Association (UNAA), and closer to home, he led efforts to support health initiatives, serving as the chairman of the Uganda Sickle Cell Rescue Foundation (USCRF) with the support of his brother Hajj Haruna Kalule Kibirige .

BMK’s journey is a testament to what can be achieved with a blend of vision, hard work, and a heart for community. His passing on September 10, 2021, marked the end of an era, but his legacy continues to inspire entrepreneurs and leaders, not only in Uganda but across Africa. His life’s work is a shining example of how business can be a force for positive change, shaping industries and improving lives.

Haruna kibirige Kalule also known as H.K.K was born in Masaka Matanga on the 19th day of January, 1961. He alongside his brother Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige also known as B.M.K founded the BMK group of companies.

Haruna Kibirige Kalule has since been the managing director of BMK group and with his wise counsel, visionary mind and leadership expertise and experience, he has been able to contribute immensely towards the thriving of the group.

Haruna Kalule Kibirige’s management and leadership skills, have contributed immensely to the growth of UHOA on which he sits as a member representing the central region.

In addition to being a member of UHOA, Haruna Kalule Kibirige has contributed broadly towards the growth of USCRF ( Uganda Sickle Cell Rescue Foundation) that was founded by his brother Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige (B.M.K) in 2013 with the aim of supporting sickle cell awareness while improving the quality of lives of people living with Sickle Cell disease. This initiative has received numerous mentions and recognition for the positive impact it has had on the community.
